Our story started in Seattle with my spouse and me. We moved to southwest Washington in 2016, got our first official place together, then lost it in 2021 during the pandemic. We planned to travel to find work and a new home when I learned I was pregnant with my first son.
Thankfully, we were housed in a family shelter by the time he was born, and six months later I found out I was pregnant again.
It took us two years to find housing due to an eviction, until someone told me about this program. I thought we wouldn’t qualify, but because there were no credit checks, we barely made it in. We’re still scraping by—my husband takes care of our health needs and hasn’t been able to work—but we have family support and are making it through.
Community Roots really saved our family and our lives. We thought we would have to be separated to find housing or be dishonest to get a place, but we didn’t. Everything fell into place as God ordered it. We’ll forever be grateful for Community Roots and all the resources they offer. It feels like one big family here, and it’s helping our kids grow and thrive after their early struggles.
